TikTok went dark for around 14 hours on Jan. 18 after the app lost an appeal to the Supreme Court that challenged Joe Biden’s divest-or-ban law. Biden signed a bill into law in 2024 requiring ByteDance to either sell TikTok’s controlling interest to a non-Chinese owner or get banned in the U.S. on Jan. 19.

TikTok is once again counting down to a federal ban, unless some kind of a deal is struck by the end of the week. The popular social media app faces a Saturday deadline to sell itself to a buyer deemed fit by US officials or face being banned in this country.

Amazon has placed a bid on TikTok, as the April 5 deadline nears for a potential sale of the social media company. If a deal does not emerge, the popular app could face a nationwide ban.
