As egg prices increase, two churches on the city's South Side are taking matters into their own hands. They will be giving out 40,000 eggs for free this weekend. Volunteers from the churches—Progressive Chicago Church and Salem Baptist — gathered on Friday to package and prepare the eggs.

Thousands of people lined up in a parking lot at 87th Street, just off the Dan Ryan Expressway — as well as other locations across the city Saturday — for an egg giveaway put together by Bridgeport’s Progressive Baptist Church and Pullman’s Salem Baptist Church.

With the price of eggs reaching record highs, one South Side pastor and his team want to help the community in these trying times. They will give out 40,000 eggs for free on Saturday
