Gerhardt Konig, a former UPMC doctor accused of trying to kill his wife on a hiking trail in Hawaii made his first court appearance on Thursday and was held on attempted murder charges.

Police in Honolulu, Hawaii, arrested a man they say attempted to murder his wife on a hiking trail on Monday. Honolulu Police announced that Gerhardt Konig was taken into custody following a "brief foot pursuit" near a highway.

Police said a 36-year-old woman reported the incident Monday morning and was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Two witnesses called 911 and helped the police with their investigation.
