Israel's annual inflation rate rose unexpectedly in April to 3.6%, according to data on Thursday from the Central Bureau of Statistics that will likely keep policymakers from reducing interest rates soon.

Core inflation remained more or less unchanged last month, a setback for anyone hoping the Federal Reserve will move quickly to lower interest rates. Cuts are even less likely in the near term because the latest trade negotiations with China should reduce the threat of a U.

The dollar fell and major U.S. stock indexes rose on Tuesday on news that U.S. consumer inflation picked up less than expected in April when President Donald Trump unveiled a raft of tariffs that has wreaked havoc on global markets.
