The most disappointing season in Rutgers basketball history is officially over. The Scarlet Knights (15-17, 8-12) “will not participate in any postseason tournaments,” the program announced Sunday morning in a statement obtained by NJ Advance Media.

Rutgers will get invited to both the NIT and the College Basketball Crown. The details on the latter are murky.

Another new NIT selection process announced in October by the NCAA will distribute 16 bids to "exempt" teams meeting certain criteria related to conference affiliation and advanced metrics. It marks the second year in a row that criteria for NIT access has changed as the event seeks to solidify its place in an evolving postseason landscape.
